Equestrian Cremation

At Saint Francis Pet Crematory, we realize the decision to cremate your pet should be made with careful consideration. The right choice is one that requires careful thought and with the best interest of the horse in mind.

End the Trail Respectfully…
We all wish for our animals to live happy and healthy lives and experience a peaceful end. If we consider what we would do in the event of an emergency or how we would react if the life of the equine became painful and long suffering, we can prepare ourselves for the end of the trail.

In 1994 Saint Francis Pet Crematory was the first to recognize the needs of equestrians when dealing with the loss of a proud animal. We are the first crematory to introduce large animal cremation in the United States. We are fully licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Agency.

Sheilah Wigant-McGee, this Illinois native has been a prolific sculptor since graduating from Illinois State University in 1993 with a Bachelors Degree in Art. As a professional artist, she has received commissions for over 7 sculptures. She has recently received a commission to design for the city of Geneseo, two life size figures in Victorian dress to compliment the community’s Victorian image. The bronzes will be displayed in one of the beautiful city parks. Other recent life-size commissions include a “Holy Family” created as a memorial for a prominent family in Davenport, Iowa and a larger than life-size Sakajawea for Wildlife Prairie State Park in Peoria, Illinois. Many of her works, in a variety of media, are in galleries and public and private collections across the country. Though she primarily creates works on commission, Sheilah also creates pieces out of an inner need for expression. She works in many styles, but her art always seeks to incorporate a spiritual element that reveals the intrinsic nature of the subject. Sheilah will often re-work a piece many times to capture that elusive notion of “self”. It is her sincere desire that her work brings a sense of peace and happiness to those who share that which she creates. Her work for Saint Francis’ Original Bronze Equine Sculpture Urn continues in that spirit.
Cremation Fees – Separate from the Transportation /Pickup fee, our cremation fee is based on the weight of the animal, $0.85 per pound.
